Gerry Virgo
I am a counsellor with a wide variety of interests. I have worked with people with growth and development as a focus for 20 years. I was the counselling services manager for a youth agency for some years. Now, I work as an independent counsellor, using EMDR, with a wide range of people and issues. I am passionate about being involved with people to bring out the best in each of us. When I am with people I celebrate each moment of growth and insight. It seems fundamental to me that each of us has a contribution to make and that this comes most freely when we accept and value ourselves just the way we are. With commitment the changes that transform become a reality. I am a hugely curious person. As a scientist by background, I am fascinated by what happens when we communicate. What most engages me is the flow between us, in our relating, in our emotions and also in our own physical being. I am greatly influenced by The Human Awareness Institute (HAI), an organisation which focuses on community and relationship in the context of love, intimacy and sexuality. Earlier in my life, I worked as a toxicologist and a teacher. I was fortunate to grow up on a farm in deepest rural Lincolnshire and was the first of my family to go to university. I still enjoy the memories of herding cattle and stacking straw but now I confine myself to herding cats and the planting and care of a hedge of native tree species. |
